No New Preston Incinerator

The proposed new incinerator at Redscar is not only bad for the environment but could drastically impact the health people of Preston by releasing toxins into the atmosphere. While the Lib Dems acknowledge that effectively dealing with waste is an important part of 21st century life it should be done in a safe and environmentally sympathetic manner, with minimal impact on the health of residents in our local communities. The local Labour councillors refused to object to it in planning and then the Conservative passed it at County Hall. Only the Lib Dems are on your side. Preston and Lancashire have disgracefully low recycling rates, less than 33%. We will never achieve our environmental targets if we sign contracts committing us to burning many tons of rubbish for decades to come. No new contract means no new incinerator.
